Learjet 60 crashes in Palm Beach County, killing all nine aboard

Nine people died in a Learjet 60 crash in Palm Beach County on Sunday afternoon.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that no one survived the accident. The plane carried a total of nine individuals, though officials have not yet specified the exact number of crew members versus passengers. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy provided the initial confirmation of the fatalities.

The aircraft departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas. Its intended destination was North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas. The FAA stated the plane went down in Florida before reaching its final stop. The National Transportation Safety Board announced it is sending teams to the state to begin its investigation.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke at a press conference on Sunday. He said he did not know if any of the victims were Florida residents. He described the impact as a cataclysmic plane crash that looked like a missile going down. DeSantis noted the crash left a big crater on the side of the road.

The NTSB sent a go team to Florida on Sunday night and Monday. The agency expects to hold a media briefing on Monday. The board is investigating the events leading up to the crash. No names of the victims have been released by officials.

Dashcam video captured the moment the jet hit the ground. The footage shows the plane falling from the sky and crashing nose-down. It caught fire and exploded on impact. The video was secured by the video wire service Storyful.
