A 21-year-old Daytona Beach woman is in custody after posting online that she would shoot President Donald Trump at a local campaign event. Allison Albro faces two criminal charges, including making a written threat to kill and using a communication device for an unlawful purpose.
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Secret Service agents visited Albro on Thursday night after she shared an image of herself online. The post stated she intended to attend a presidential rally and fire her Glock at the leader. The sheriff’s office said she claimed the post was a joke.
“She stated that her post was a joke, that she did not have access to a Glock pistol or any other firearm, and that she would never hurt anyone,” the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook. Albro is currently held in the county jail.
Sheriff Mike Chitwood told residents to think twice before publishing similar jokes. He noted that the post required a formal response from law enforcement. The president is scheduled to speak in Daytona Beach later this afternoon. He will campaign for Byron Donalds, Ashley Moody, and Randy Fine.
Those three candidates are seeking the offices of governor, Senate, and House of Representatives in Florida. Albro’s arrest highlights the scrutiny placed on social media threats made close to major political events. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed the timing of the visit and the specific weapons mentioned in the original post.
