The Department of Homeland Security confirmed on Thursday that it arrested Victor Carmona-Hernandez in Omaha. He is currently being held at the Sarpy County Jail.
Carmona-Hernandez, 25, is a citizen of Mexico. He was convicted in 2023 after pleading no contest to two counts of attempted sexual assault of a child. A judge sentenced him to between four and eight years in prison. He received credit for 241 days already served.
The DHS announcement contained an error regarding the charge. It stated he was convicted of first-degree sexual assault in Douglas County. Nebraska court records show the conviction was for two counts of attempted sexual assault.
Police filed an affidavit in the 2022 case alleging the 20-year-old suspect lied about his age. He claimed to be 18 while assaulting a child between the ages of 12 and 16.
On August 19, authorities found that Carmona-Hernandez had violated his sex offender registry. He listed his address as the Pottawattamie County Jail in Council Bluffs but was actually living in Gretna. His Nebraska driver's license status was marked as deported at that time.
He pleaded no contest to the registry violation on October 26. The judge sentenced him to 100 days in jail. He received credit for 69 days of time already served.
