Cristy Abbott, Shanti Pierce and David Ahlgren serve on the board of the Florida Permaculture Convergence 2026 and join Jon on WMNF's Sustainable Living show this week to discuss the event. Abbott is a permaculture educator, practitioner and consultant who teaches about biodiversity and the relationships between soil, plants, animals and planetary patterns in farming. Pierce founded Bamboo Leaf Tea and works on medical uses of bamboo. Ahlgren teaches and consults in permaculture around the world.
The conversation covers the history of the Florida Permaculture Convergence and the mission behind it. The board members also discuss regenerative agriculture, sustainability, natural building and homesteading, along with teaching the next generation land-based skills and the value of nature. Sustaining wild Florida is another topic on the show.
Ahlgren specializes in large scale land restoration projects, many focused on water and nutrient flow. He said he is focusing half of his work on discussions and research on permaculture of how we can relate as humans in more harmony.
Sustainable Living airs every Monday at 11am on 88.5fm. Past episodes are available in the archives.
