Skye Blakely returned to the University of Gainesville campus on Tuesday morning, hours after landing in the United States from the world championships. Her first stop was the dining hall, where teammates and students from other sports gathered to congratulate her. She has since been greeted by classmates and professors who recognize the length of her recovery.

Blakely, 21, secured the world all-around title on Friday, 28 months after rupturing her right Achilles tendon. She also earned bronze medals on vault and uneven bars and a silver medal with the team. The victory came after she led the all-around competition following routines on vault, uneven bars, and beam. She cried when her final floor score confirmed the gold medal.

The gymnast had previously missed the 2021 and 2024 Olympic cycles due to injuries, including a torn ulnar collateral ligament in her left elbow during the 2021 trials. She competed on balance beam in the 2022 world final and on bars in the 2023 final. In 2024, she placed second in the national all-around behind Simone Biles before suffering the Achilles injury during trials.

Now a junior, Blakely is preparing for the upcoming NCAA season. She will begin team practice on Monday to adjust her routines for the 2027 cycle. The Gators aim to repeat as SEC champions and improve upon their third-place finish at the previous national championships. Blakely has not missed a team activity during the fall semester despite her elite training schedule.

Team captain Kayla DiCello, who also ruptured her Achilles at the 2024 trials, provided support during Blakely's recovery. Leanne Wong, the 2025 world all-around silver medalist, is also on the roster. Blakely noted that the team refined their collective goals during an August retreat in Sarasota. They updated a team mantra inspired by former quarterback Tim Tebow to emphasize mutual respect and effort.

Blakely said the group focuses on daily improvement rather than just trophies. She plans to train for elite competition in addition to her collegiate duties, often staying in the gym after team practice ends. Her goal remains to join Gabby Douglas and Simone Biles on the Olympic all-around podium at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Just hours after her interview, Blakely sat for a nutrition education midterm. A microbiology lab exam followed on Friday morning. She described the workload as hard but manageable, noting that the mental strength gained from winning the world title helps her handle academic pressure.
