NASCAR is taking over a section of Birmingham’s City Walk today, bringing a large-scale car show and block party to the public for free.
The fourth annual event runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, October 30. Organizers expect roughly 150 vehicles to line the street. The lineup includes cars owned by celebrities and influencers, as well as entries driven in from other states. The event follows a recent race weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.
Attendees will have access to racing simulators and display cars. Food trucks and local vendors, including Alicia’s Coffee, are set up throughout the area. A dedicated kids zone offers family activities for children.
Brandon Thompson, NASCAR’s Vice President of Growth, Engagement, and Inclusion, described the gathering as a key part of the organization’s community outreach. He emphasized the connection to Historically Black Colleges and Universities, specifically Alabama A&M and Alabama State.
“We had about 1,500 people come out last year, a ton of food trucks, so it was a great opportunity,” Thompson said. “It’s really just a great time to bring out the kids, celebrate the classic weekend, and come out and see what NASCAR’s all about.”
Thompson noted that the event serves to build relationships in the Birmingham market. He stated that the city holds particular importance for Talladega. “We know how much Birmingham means to Talladega as well,” Thompson said. “It’s a great time for us to come back with one of the city’s largest events, to be able to come and support both HBCUs here and support a lot of the things that we have going on just from an HBCU initiative across the board.”
Admission is free and open to the public. The event is located at City Walk BHAM and includes all listed attractions without an entry fee.
