Local radio station WMNF named “Stand” by Sly and the Family Stone as its Song of the Day for November 3, 2026.
The station identified the track as the title song from the band’s landmark album Stand!, which was released on May 3, 1969. That release date came just before the group performed at Woodstock. Sylvester Stewart, known professionally as Sly Stone, led the band as its frontman.
Stone is recognized as a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and a recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He is also credited as a founder of the progressive soul movement. His work fused soul, rock, psychedelia, and gospel during the 1960s and 1970s.
WMNF chose the song for today, which is Election Day. The station noted that the track has historically carried themes of civic courage and action. It framed the selection as a reminder for listeners to defend democracy by voting.
The station encouraged residents to view their vote as a tool for shaping their communities. It urged voters to stand for their neighbors, justice, and truth.
Listeners are invited to hear the track as part of the station’s daily music segment.
