Rep. Ilhan Omar returned to public view in Minneapolis on Friday, sharing a video of a quiet walk with her husband, Tim Mynett, on a dock overlooking a lake. The post, made on X, showed the couple smiling and chatting against a backdrop of fall foliage. Omar captioned the clip with the phrase 'Less scrolling, more strolling. Enjoying our beautiful Minnesota lakes.'

The visual calm contrasted sharply with the audio. The video was set to a Somali hip-hop track titled 'Nimaan Ciilayba Icaaya' by artist Ilkacase Qays. The lyrics, translated from Somali, speak of power and dominance. One line reads, 'No enemy dares threaten me, wherever I step, they scatter.' Another states, 'If the just one had felt anger on my behalf, would he not have crushed the enemy underfoot?'

The song features a duet with Somali singer Hodan Abdirahman. A cultural analysis described the track as an example of Somali lyrical poetry focused on pride and bravery. The analysis noted that the artist uses exaggerated imagery to ridicule opponents, portraying them as people who would lose sleep and suffer humiliation. The lyrics continue, 'You go without sleep, overcome with anguish, weeping in spite.'

Omar’s appearance marked her first public outing in nearly two weeks. She had been out of the public eye since Oct. 12, 2026, when Homeland Security Investigations agents searched her home in Washington, D.C., as part of a criminal investigation. During that raid, federal agents confiscated her passport and cellphone.

On Friday, Omar cast an early ballot alongside state Attorney General Keith Ellison in Minneapolis. The two then visited the Karmel Mall of Somalia in the city, where they ate lunch and posed for photos with members of the Somali community. It remains unclear when the lakeside video was filmed, though Omar posted it later that same day.

Omar restricted who could reply to her social media post. The only publicly visible comment came from former House member Cori Bush, who wrote, 'We love this.' Omar is currently running for reelection in Minnesota.

The investigation centers on potential fraud related to immigration paperwork submitted by Omar or her father during her citizenship process. HSI serves as the main investigatory agency for the Department of Homeland Security. In the wake of the raid, federal investigators interviewed Omar’s sister, Sahra Noor, and obtained Omar’s DNA.

Tom Homan, the border czar, stated last week that Omar could be denaturalized if fraud is proven. The congresswoman, whose full name is reported to be Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, continues to face questions about the timing of her social media posts relative to the ongoing legal proceedings.
