Tofan heads to Kyiv with energy and defense chiefs

Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan landed in Kyiv on Monday, October 26, for a diplomatic mission focused on energy and trade.

The delegation included three cabinet members accompanying the prime minister. Vladimir Bolea, the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, traveled with Anatolie Nosatîi, the Minister of Defence, and Dorin Junghietu, the Minister of Energy.

Tofan’s itinerary involves high-level meetings with Ukrainian counterparts. He is scheduled to sit down with Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Ruslan Stefanchuk, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.

The Moldovan government stated that the prime ministers will address bilateral relations and economic cooperation. The talks will also cover regional security and both nations' progress toward joining the European Union.

Tofan and Koretskyi will jointly attend the Kyiv International Economic Forum. The event focuses on investment opportunities and the expansion of economic ties between the two countries.

This visit follows a series of recent interactions between the two governments. On October 14, Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal met with Tofan to review energy sector challenges and winter preparations. On October 12, Tofan indicated he was considering buying natural gas from Ukraine. Moldovan President Maia Sandu also declared the country ready to accept new Ukrainian refugees if the humanitarian situation worsens.
