Five children and one adult driver sustained minor injuries after a blue sedan crashed into a Winter Haven daycare on Monday morning. The Winter Haven Police Department confirmed that all six individuals were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening conditions.
The accident began when a Citrus Connection bus collided with the sedan. The impact pushed the car off the roadway and into the Private Christian School Child Care facility. Police are currently investigating the cause of the initial collision.
George Aguilar, who works at Gold Star Pawn and Gun adjacent to the daycare, witnessed the sequence of events. He heard the sound of the impact and observed the bus stopping before the sedan rolled into the building. Aguilar immediately called 911 to report the scene.
Aguilar stated that he felt an urgency to act due to his own experience as a father. He described hearing children crying and screaming from the back of the facility. He checked the area for visible blood and later asked staff if the children were safe.
"I could hear them toward the back, crying and screaming, 'Oh, my God.' I checked the area around where it was, and there was no blood. Later I asked, 'Are the kids OK?' And they said, 'Yeah, yeah, the kids are OK.' So I was like, 'Oh, thank God,'" Aguilar said.
The witness noted that vehicle crashes are common in that specific location because many drivers speed through the area.
