Residents in the Brooksville area should verify the identity of any individual claiming to represent Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative before providing personal details. WREC has issued an alert regarding a group of people visiting homes under the name of a company called Unitech.

According to the cooperative, these individuals falsely claim an affiliation with WREC. They are attempting to enroll residents in programs that they say will lower electric bills. WREC stated it has no connection to Unitech.

The cooperative emphasized that it does not send representatives to door-to-door solicitations to sign up members for services. Employees who are on official business with WREC wear specific company clothing and carry WREC identification.

WREC advised that anyone unsure of a visitor's status should not give out personal information. Instead, residents should contact the cooperative directly to verify the claim.
