The Milwaukee Brewers erased any doubt about their standing in the World Series on Monday night by outscoring the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1. The victory extends Milwaukee's lead in the best-of-seven series to three games and none. The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
The Rays attempted to build momentum early but fell behind in the third inning when the Brewers scored two runs. The deficit widened dramatically during the fifth inning. Milwaukee hitters connected consistently during that frame, adding eight more runs to their total. The Brewers never relinquished control of the scoreboard after that surge.
Tampa Bay managed to score a single run in the bottom of the ninth inning. The game ended shortly after that score. This marks the third consecutive loss for the Rays in this postseason series. The team now faces the challenge of winning four straight games to advance.
The loss follows a dramatic Game 2 on Saturday in Milwaukee. The Rays held a 4-0 lead in the first inning of that contest. The Brewers responded with a comeback to win 5-4. Tampa Bay had a final opportunity to tie that game in the ninth inning. The tying runner reached first base, but the team could not drive him home to change the outcome.
Former manager Joe Maddon threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Monday night game. Maddon guided the Rays from 2006 to 2014. He led the franchise to its first American League East title and its first World Series appearance in 2008. During his eight-year tenure, he accumulated 754 wins and secured four playoff spots for the team.
This is the third World Series appearance in Rays franchise history. The team previously lost championship series in 2008 and 2020. The Brewers also seek their first title in franchise history. Both organizations enter this final stretch with the chance to claim a historic win.
Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m. at Tropicana Field. If the series remains undecided, Game 5 will follow on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 8 p.m. in St. Petersburg. Any remaining games will take place in Milwaukee on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31.
