Jay-Z has accepted the invitation to perform at the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show, reversing a position he held for nearly a decade. The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced the decision on Monday, confirming that the rapper will headline the event on February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The announcement followed days of speculation and a teaser video showing the artist seated in the stadium surrounded by goats, accompanied by the caption "GOAT's out of the bag." This marks a return to the venue where Jay-Z concluded his recent "Jay-Z 30" concert tour, a run that spanned New York, London, and Southern California.
The shift in status stems from a partnership between Roc Nation and the NFL that began in 2019. At that time, Jay-Z told NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, "If this is about me performing at the Super Bowl, then we can just end this conversation now." That stance defined the next seven years, during which other artists occupied the halftime stage.
Since 2019, the league has featured performers including Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, and The Weeknd. Jay-Z's inclusion now places his 25 Grammy Awards and 89 nominations into the spotlight, a tally that is second only to his wife, Beyoncé, in history.
The rapper's career spans music production, management, and publishing. He co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records and established Roc Nation in 2008, which now manages artists and athletes. His accolades include induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017 as the first rapper to receive that honor, and entry into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
His musical output, which includes albums such as "Reasonable Doubt" and "The Blueprint," continues to influence streaming data. The debut album "Reasonable Doubt" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2025. Recent data from the league indicates that performers often see sharp increases in streaming chart positions in the hours following the broadcast.
The 2027 performance will be the first time Jay-Z has led the halftime show since 2011. The event is scheduled for the following February, with the specific date set for the 14th. The collaboration between Roc Nation and the NFL will continue to advise on the entertainment presentation for the game.
