Manchester United fans turned on their players for the first time in years on Sunday. Supporters cheered manager Michael Carrick off the pitch and then booed the rest of the squad as they left. The reaction followed a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford. This loss extended the club's worst start to a league season in 40 years.

The defeat has cast doubt on every level of the organization. It questions the future of the manager, the ownership group, and the playing staff. United supporters are no longer willing to accept the current state of the team. They believe the problems span from the boardroom to the dressing room.

A lack of consistent goalscorers remains a central issue. Since Cristiano Ronaldo left in November 2022, the team has struggled to find a reliable forward. Rasmus Hojlund was signed as a long-term solution but was sent back to Italy after failing to score. Benjamin Sesko arrived in the summer of 2025 on a high-profile deal, but injuries have limited his impact. Currently, Bryan Mbeumo leads the team with four goals. Eight other Premier League players have scored more than that.

Executive leadership faces mounting pressure from the fanbase. The Glazer family has owned the club since 2005. Critics argue that former CEO Ed Woodward and current CEO Omar Berrada have overseen 75 disappointing signings in the last 13 years. Defender Lisandro Martinez publicly criticized the hierarchy for failing to invest in the squad during the summer transfer window. He specifically targeted Jason Wilcox after a recent loss to Atletico Madrid.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS Group invested heavily in the club two years ago. The investment brought off-field cost cuts and plans to rebuild the stadium. Fans view Ratcliffe similarly to the Glazers, seeing him as an unwelcome presence. The financial return so far has been minimal, and the on-pitch results have not improved.

The relationship between manager Michael Carrick and star midfielder Bruno Fernandes has deteriorated. Fernandes was booed off the pitch on Sunday despite not playing. Fans were angry after he publicly criticized Carrick's tactics following a loss to Como. Fernandes is 32 years old and remains the team's most effective player. However, the club has considered selling him, with the Saudi Pro League and Galatasaray identified as potential suitors.

Tactical confusion continues to plague the squad. The club has shifted between multiple styles under recent managers. Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation confused players. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Carrick tried to replicate the free-flowing style of Sir Alex Ferguson but could not maintain form. Ralf Rangnick, now coaching Austria, previously described the club as needing open-heart surgery.

Gary Neville commented on Sky Sports on Sunday that certain players lack professionalism. He stated that a few members of the squad are not as dedicated as they should be. The club needs a clear identity to reconnect with its supporters. The local fanbase is restless and demands change in the coming weeks.
