College football rankings shifted sharply on Sunday as Texas moved up to No. 10 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. The Longhorns secured the position after defeating Mississippi State 31-3 on Saturday. Quarterback Arch Manning threw three touchdowns, and defensive lineman Maraad Watson returned a fumble for a score in the win.
The rise for Texas coincided with a fall for Ohio State. The Buckeyes dropped from No. 2 to No. 11 after losing 30-18 to unranked USC. This was Ohio State's second defeat of the season, a result that eliminated them from the upper echelon of the rankings. Miami held the No. 1 spot despite a narrow victory over North Carolina.
Upsets further disrupted the lower half of the poll. Unranked Oregon defeated former No. 20 Northwestern, while Syracuse beat then-No. 19 SMU. Iowa State also won against then-No. 24 Oklahoma State. All three previously ranked teams lost their spots in the top 25 following these results.
The timeline of this week's movement began with Saturday's games, which concluded the regular season schedule for several teams. The AP poll was released on Sunday, reflecting the outcomes of those matches. Teams such as Northwestern, Oregon, and UTSA received votes but did not place in the top 25.
Texas is scheduled to play its next game against No. 19 Missouri. The matchup is set for 11 a.m. in Columbia, Mo. The Longhorns will travel to the road for this contest, aiming to maintain their standing in the national rankings.
